The Mountaintop Communities Rehabilitation Program is available to assist homeowners in six mountaintop communities: Ashland, Hunter, Jewett, Lexington, Prattsville, and Windham. This program is available to assist low and moderate income households in making needed repairs to their homes.
The grant can be used to address safety hazards, housing quality standards issues, lead based paint hazards, and to correct any present code violations. The funds can also be used to allow for “Aging in Place” of senior citizens and to address energy conservation and reduce energy use. So far this has been a very popular program among mountaintop residents and we expect that it will have a significant impact across the mountaintop communities.
There is currently a waiting list, but we have received a waiver to assist a few homeowners that were affected by storm damage. Assistance is provided in the form of a deferred loan secured by a deferred payment note and mortgage on the property with a recapture period of five years. The deferred loan will need to be paid back on a pro-rated basis if the owner sells the home or moves within the five year period.
