The Hunter Foundation, through the Royce Family Fund, has recently acquired two properties in Tannersville...

• 6029 Main Street was severely damaged by Hurricane Irene and was slated to be torn down by the Department of Transportation. We purchased the 100+ year-old building and are in the process of stabilizing it. We feel that the presence of this historic house enhances the overall beauty of Main Street much more than would an empty lot in its place. Plans are to repair, restore, then sell the building.

• 6067 Main Street (former Smiley’s) was purchased in September. We felt that rather than have this Main Street building continue to decline, it would be best to save it and create a thriving business in this key location. We hope to then work with the school district, offering to them the opportunity to manage the business – a wonderful teaching tool, we think!

For Sale

The Astor House property is available for sale. This beautifully restored Victorian dates back to the late 1800’s and offers two income-producing apartments plus 2200 sq. ft. of retail space, currently housing a gift shop, art gallery, wi-fi café with a bakery and a bookstore. It acts as the Trailways bus stop, making it a lively, friendly place to come to relax with a book, a mug of freshly roasted Tannersville General Store coffee and a delicious pastry from Chris Cade’s bakery. Open everyday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, the Astor House is now selling Christmas Trees!

The “Tannersville General Store” is also available for sale. This store of yesteryear has a lunch counter, ice cream/soda fountain, candy counter, coffee roaster, toys, games, sleds, pajamas, camping and fishing gear and many items all fashioned in an old time setting. Come in and have a look around... it really is spectacular!
