Our Mission is to: Purchase, improve and resell blighted properties in the Town of Hunter; Develop affordable residential and business property in the Town of Hunter; Promote business activity in the Town, particularly in the construction trades; Facilitate tourism/community infrastructure initiatives; Create a healthier tax base; Seek loans, donations, grants and tax advantages on behalf of Foundation goals; Advocate for State/Federal projects and assistance in the Town.
The Hunter Foundation was formed in 1997 and is a tax-exempt 501©3 organization dedicated to improving the Town of Hunter which includes the Villages of Tannersville and Hunter as well as the Hamlet of Haines Falls and everything in between. The Foundation Board members represent a mix of full and part time residents and includes prominent business leaders and individuals whose families have been in Hunter for many generations.
The initial focus of the Hunter Foundation is the most visible part of town, namely the Route 23A corridor (also known as Rip Van Winkle Trail). We will purchase, renovate and sell residential and commercial properties in the area at or below cost or aid others in upgrading their property. We strive to beautify Route 23A by providing attractive housing for local residents and by making renovated space available to businesses. As the goal is to improve the Town’s buildings and TAX BASE – ALL of the buildings we own and/or assist REMAIN ON THE TAX ROLLS at FULL ASSESSED VALUE (no exceptions).
To date the Hunter Foundation has played a key roll in rehabilitating over one hundred homes and thirty-five businesses in the Town of Hunter and now, also in the neighboring towns of Ashland, Jewett, Prattsville, Lexington and Windham. We have been responsible for an influx of dollars into the local economy in the amount of over TWELVE Million Dollars! We have provided jobs and work to local contractors, we have helped to create businesses and we continue to look for new ways to help.
